Hsinchu to Taoyuan Airport: 5 Ways to Get There
Updated 2026-10-01 · 6 min read
Hsinchu is roughly 55–75 minutes from Taoyuan Airport by car, but the best option depends on your group size, luggage and flight time. Here are all five ways, compared.
The five options at a glance
Short version: with two or more people, heavy luggage, or a red-eye flight, a private transfer is usually easiest. Travelling alone in daylight with light bags, the high-speed rail plus airport MRT is cheapest.
- Costs are rough estimates; check each operator for current fares and timetables
- Private transfers add a night surcharge for trips starting 23:00–05:59, shown in your quote upfront
| Option | Time | Rough cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | 55–75 min (door to door) | Fixed zone fare | 2+ people, heavy bags, red-eye flights |
| HSR + airport MRT | 12–15 min + 20 min | NT$170–200 | Solo, daytime, light luggage |
| Rail + airport MRT | 50–70 min + 20 min | NT$100–150 | Budget-first, flexible time |
| Intercity bus | 60–90 min | NT$100–160 | Cheapest, timetable suits you |
| Driving | 55–75 min | Fuel + parking | Friends or family driving you |
Private transfer — easiest with people and luggage
Your driver collects you at your door in Hsinchu City, Zhubei or the Science Park and drops you at the Terminal 1 or Terminal 2 departures hall — no hauling bags between trains. The fare is fixed by zone and does not change with traffic.
For arrivals, add your flight number and the driver tracks the actual landing time. Waiting is free for 90 minutes after landing on international flights, with no delay surcharge. This matters most for red-eye and early morning flights.
HSR plus airport MRT — fastest and cheapest solo
Hsinchu to Taoyuan on the high-speed rail takes about 12–15 minutes, then the airport MRT from Taoyuan HSR station (A18) reaches T1/T2 in about 20 minutes. Allow 60–80 minutes door to door with transfers and waiting.
It is cheap and frequent, but you handle your own luggage, and late-night or delayed arrivals can run into the last-train problem.
Rail, bus and driving
Regular rail to Taoyuan takes 50–70 minutes depending on the service, then the airport MRT. Intercity buses serve the route more cheaply but run to a fixed timetable with few late-night options.
Driving yourself means paying airport parking by the day — expensive on long trips. Having friends drive you is kind, but ask whether a 2-hour round trip at 4 a.m. is fair.
Working out when to leave
Aim to be at the airport 2.5 hours before an international departure, or 3 hours during holiday periods. From Hsinchu that means leaving 3.5–4 hours before takeoff. Night roads are quieter, so early morning departures are the most predictable.
