Getting to Kaohsiung Airport (KHH): 5 Ways

Updated 2026-10-01 · 6 min read

Kaohsiung Airport sits just south of the city centre and the MRT red line runs straight there, making it one of the simpler airports in Taiwan to reach. Here are five options, plus notes on the long haul to Taoyuan.

The five options at a glance

Because KHH is close to the city, the MRT is genuinely convenient for solo travellers. With people, luggage or a night flight, a private transfer still wins on convenience.

  • Costs are rough estimates; check each operator for current fares and timetables
  • KHH transfers add a night surcharge for pickups at 23:00–05:59, shown upfront

Private transfer — easiest with luggage

Door-to-door pickup anywhere in Kaohsiung, straight to the KHH departures hall, or a meeting at the arrivals hall on the way home with an optional name-board meet. The fare is fixed and does not change with traffic.

Add your flight number and the driver tracks the landing; waiting is free for 90 minutes after landing on international flights, with no delay surcharge. Night and early flights can be booked 24 hours a day.

MRT red line — the solo traveller’s choice

The MRT red line stops at Kaohsiung International Airport Station, right at the terminal. From the city centre it takes about 20–30 minutes at a low fare, with frequent, predictable service.

The catch is late-night and early-morning flights, when the MRT may not be running, plus carrying your own bags.

Bus, taxi and driving

City buses are the cheapest but run to fixed routes and timetables. Taxis are flexible and metered, so the fare can shift with traffic — not always better value than a fixed transfer on longer runs or with a group.

Driving takes 20–40 minutes and airport parking is charged by the day: fine for short trips, worth calculating for longer ones.

If you need Taoyuan instead

Kaohsiung to Taoyuan Airport is a long haul — roughly 4.5–5.5 hours by road, or the HSR to Taoyuan plus the airport MRT in about 1 hour 45 minutes before transfers. Book a transfer at least a day ahead and leave early; for red-eye and early flights, a transfer is effectively the only option.
